Tony went with Anom to the Jewel smith. He wanted to buy something special for his girl friend. I decided to visit the monkey forest in Ubud.
This is the road that leads to the monkey forest....
Every road in Bali has thousands of shops. Especially in the tourist places you will find a lot of souvenir shops, food shops, car - push bike - motor bike rental, vcd shops, music shops, wartel (telephone), internet shops, etc. etc. Don't worry, in this country you will find everything you might need to survive. Even in the smallest roads where you can only drive with a jeep, you will find small shops.
If you want to go to a party in Ubud, there is not much to do. The only club that that is good is Monkey Forest Club, just next to the entrance of Monkey Forest. The night before, Tony went to the club and met a few European people. He told me it is the only club in town where you will find some night life.
I finally arrived in monkey forest... I bought some chips and an ice cream. I first ate the ice cream, and started to eat the chips as I entered monkey forest. The monkeys are surely hungry, and one even tried to grab my chips bag.

On my way back I passed by a school. Children are taught how to clean the street and the ground. They are holding a Balinese brush, and they have to make the brush them themselves...
I finally got back to Tjok's house. His sister in law was there, so I made a picture.
I had the opportunity to talk on his Ham Radio set and talked with a few stations from Australia and from New Caledonia while waiting on the return of Anom and Tony.
When Tony and Anom finally came back, I quickly made a picture of our hotel....
... and Tony went for the last time to Tjok to say Good Bye. These were the last seconds in Ubud for Tony, before moving on to the east side of the Island.
We decided to make the tour around the island with the car...

We went over Ubud to Candi Dasa. And from there we decided to follow the coast line. The red part is a very ramshackled road. The road is about 10 kilometers, but note it takes about 4 to 5 hours driving to Amed. I recommend to follow this road, but you absolutely need a jeep to drive this road! |

1 big advise, before going to Bali and if you want to do this trip, bring 300 pens with you or more. The east coast of the island is the poorest in Bali, but the people are the most friendly!
There are hundred of children. When you stop, the people ask for two things: cigarettes and pens. Knowing that here in Europe, you can get thousands of pens for free with a publicity on it, there the children asks for pens. They want to try to write, but they have no pens!
If you distribute pens, you will see smiles and happiness you will have never experienced in your life. But take enough pens with you. If you start distributing them, be sure you have enough for everybody, or they will start fighting for the pens, and that was not the purpose.
