Day 12 - Going west and back south to Kuta 2/2

22-11-1999

We left Lovina around 10h30 AM and went around the island over the western side. There is nothing special in that part of the island.

I made some pictures on our way around the island...

This is a bemo. If there is not enough space in the van, you can climb on it, or even sit down on the top of the roof.

Some tourists don't want to rent a car and travel by public transport. The bemo's are the only public transports in Bali.

This way of transport is very cheap. You can go around the island for only 10 US $!

It is a very good way to have social contact, but I am afraid it is not very comfortable.

.

Most families in Bali don't have a car. They have a motorbike, and this is the family transport facility!

Sometimes, you see entire families on one motorbike.

Women always sits with both knees on one side of the motorcycle.

Their knees always point to the left.

In case they have to jump, they can jump to the side of the road.

One of the only problems in Bali is the smog. Most of the cars, bemo's and motorbikes are obsolete  and create a lot of smog.

School starts at 8 AM and finishes at noon time. Then, you see thousands of kids walking from school to home. All of them are dressed up!

What surprised me is the balance girls - boys. There are many more girls than boys.

Finally, we got back in Kuta. We had a traffic jam in Denpasar due to a ceremony in the city.

We got back in Kuta at time to see the sunset. And that evening, we had the most beautiful sunset since we were in Bali.

These two pictures are taken from the balcony of the Melasti hotel.
