Day 3. Our first day in Bali 2/2

 13-11-1999

The children all wear costumes.

Something you won't see much any more in Europe,

and certainly not in Belgium!

As you can see, the road is not clean.

The government seems not to care a lot

about the streets! But all private properties are very

clean.

Yes, you even have Pizza Huts - Mc Donald's - KFC - etc.

The prices are more than reasonable, but the native food is still much cheaper!

We changed hotel around 1 PM. A little further down the street we bargained 40 US $ for a very nice hotel. The room was very luxury and much more beautiful. The service was so good that after one night we decided to stay 2 more nights. Finally we stayed about 5 nights in this hotel and came back a few times during our 3 week trip.

This hotel is really to be recommended. The food is nice, the pool  (see under) is great and the service is really excellent! You even have TV with CNN!

The pool of the hotel...

As you can see... low season

The hotel view from the street.

Tony and me getting our first massage in Bali.

This was the first real massage in my life!

And the lady seems to love my cute ass ;-)... I knew it! Women can't resist touching it :-)

This was also the first picture I did send out to my colleagues of the office back in Belgium. I surely made some of them jealous.

One of the servants in Melista hotel. Note that some of them are working here for free and as a trainee.

I visited Bali garden, a very beautiful

hotel a little further up the street.

It feels very strange being a billionaire!

Banknotes are max 50.000 IRp.

A tip: if you feel to make a walk, leave your money at the hotel and go around. It's the best trick to avoid spending money. People want to sell you everything once you leave hotel and walk on the street. Don't be afraid of getting stolen. There is very few criminality in this region.

I had a World Receiver with me, and that evening I tuned into Radio Vlaanderen Internationaal. The receive was reasonable, but an external antenna was a must.

I also heard my friend Anom on the radio so I wanted to call him via the phone. As he doesn't have any phone at home, I called his pager and he called me back one hour later.  We made an appointment for the next day.

That night we decided to go out. The only bar that was really  good was the Sari Club. You can buy a Jungle Bottle, some kind of cocktail of 1 liter for 2 US $. If one of the security guys in the club asks for a tip, try to make him understand you don't understand English. He will go away and leave you alone!
