Day 5 - The big trip to the north 1/12.

15-11-1999

When we arrived back around midnight

I made a picture of the carved gifts

I received of Anom.

Anom wanted to drive us to the north. In the morning, he picked us up at Melasti hotel and we went to a place called Dukunbuahan. There was a ceremony that day in this town. An old woman died a few weeks ago and had to be cremated. In the Hindu religion, the deaths are offered to the Gods so they can reincarnate to a better being.

After the cremation, we went to Bedugul. This is a crater lake with the lake temple.

A few kilometers further, you could see the other lake called Danu Buyan. We then went to Singaraja, and came back over Lake Batur and Ubud.

The cremation at Dukunbuahan.

I admit. I was impressed and made a lot of pictures. If you feel getting annoyed watching the many pictures of the ceremony, switch go page Trip to Bedugul, the lake temple.

When we arrived in Dukunbuahan, everybody of the little town was preparing the street for the ceremony. I think that everybody was there waiting to participate the ceremony.

This woman was selling litchi's on the street.

One of the beautiful flowers growing on the side of the street.

This was the cremation tower.

The old woman was going to be transported in this tower.

The cremation bull is the coffin where

the woman was going to be burned..

I don't know what was the function of this well dressed ghost, but he certainly made a lot of fun! He tried to frighten the people, and even us, we had to move out of his way, because he was acting very strange!
