Day 7 - The trip to Nusa Dua and Ulu Watu 2/5.

17-11-1999

Every time we asked for fuel, they told us, go a little further, a little further down the road. But after 2 kilometers driving, no petrol station in sight. We asked about 3 times where was the damn petrol station, until we stopped by at a shop to ask the petrol station. We then realized we passed more than 100 petrol stations! Every small shop next to the road sells fuel in bottles of 1 liter! This is the shop where we filled up the motor bikes.

The picture on the right does not belong to me. I found it on a picture page from another tourist. As you can see, the bottles are fuel. In Belgium we are not used to buy petrol in bottles.

If you want more pictures, go to the web site of  Tom Coddington.

Thanks Tom to make me use your picture!

We finally arrived at Ulu Watu, in the south of the island.

Ulu Watu is an monkey temple. This temple is very important for the Balinese people. It is build on a cliff next to the see about 180 meters above sea level. If you visit this temple, you don't need a guide. The guide will just join you and show you the path to choose, but you can easily find your way alone. First go to the left, and once you have seen the temple from the left cliff, you can go to the temple. Be careful, there are hundreds of monkeys, and if they can steal something, they will certainly do so.

The view from the cliff is really great. I could stare for hours watching the waves of the sea bouncing.

The cliff itself is green by trees and grass.
