The Island Indonesia is a country of land and water. Indonesia is comprised of more than 13,600 islands and the seas that link them. It is told that Bali was once a part of Java. 10,000 years ago, earthquakes drifted a part of Java to the east, and it is now known as Bali, the island of the Gods. Bali is located on the East of Java, and on the West of Lombok. Bali has volcanoes, mountain caves, white and black sanded beaches, and unique tropical vegetation. The natives of the island, do not call it Bali, they call it the Great Island, Nusa Dua.
Bali is located at 8,30° latitude, and 115° longitude. The south coast borders the Indian Ocean; the North coast borders the Bali Sea. It is separated from Java to the west by the Bali Strait (Selat Bali), an arm of the sea which is at tis narrowest point only 3 km, and from its smaller eastern neighbour, the island of Lombok, by the 40 km wide Lombok Strait (Selat Lombok). Distances in kilometres from city to city:
Although the island is pretty small, consider long trip time due to the bad road conditions and the high traffic. The average car speed is only 30 km/h.
